Summer Wrap Up

Summer Wrap Up

Summer officially ended September 23, 2011 this year.  Where did the dog days of summer go?!  I enjoyed the refreshing rains we’ve had, and the moments we got to spend together as a family.  We managed to get many projects squared away before fall arrived, and yet still have many more to accomplish before snow flies.

While we take a time out to get ready for all the excitement that fall has in store for us (fund raisers, rodeos, fairs, parades, and other local events), I wanted to share some of the awe inspiring scenery I was able to share with my family this summer.

Low Carbon Footprint Lawn Mower

That’s right, it’s serving double duty.  Well ok, maybe even triple duty.  Let’s count the ways:

  1. Mowing the yard and leaving a low carbon foot print.
  2. Saving on feed.
  3. Fertilizing the yard for future feed savings.
  4. Making a pretty picture for me to post about.

Alright, I slipped that last one in.  But I do love to see the horses at their best.

After I snapped this lovely photo, I brought my camera back in out of the looming threat of rain.  Man horses are like children.  Unattended for even a second, and boom!  they found the garden.  As one was mental telephathing the other, HEY LOOK WHAT I FOUND!, I was trying to rationalize with a couple of 1200# horses that this was not an option.

Ughh!  Ok, mental note.  No carbon footprints can be a lot more work than it’s cracked up to be.  Oh, and the watermelon will live to be eaten another day. lol 😀

May 16th ~ A Not So Trivia Tuesday

May 16th ~ A Not So Trivia Tuesday

Never fear, Tuesday is here!  No, it’s not really Tuesday, but I couldn’t resist sharing another one of the great things we’ve been doing.

One of the best things I love about my family, is that it’s always “family” time.  Working or playing it’s all about the family, and moreover all about the kids.  No matter where we’ve been, what we’ve been doing, and where we’re going in the future, family is always the largest part of the equation.

It’s been said that kids are our future.  And if you take care of the future, the future will take care of you.  So having said that, it’s really all about the kids and grandkids isn’t it?  Raising them right, and making sure they now the past (which to me ensures their future successes).

May 10th ~ What happened?

May 10th ~ What happened?

Ok now I know I’ve been off the grid for a couple of weeks, but there’s been alot going on.  So in short, let’s get right to it and I’ll show you what I’ve been up to.

Let’s tackle them one at a time.  First, let’s cover Trivia Tuesday for May 10th.  What is so historical about May 10th?  Anything come to mind?  I actually came up with a couple of things on my own, but for the most part I had to google it.  I found some pretty interesting things.  Here’s a short list for those wonderful history buffs.

DIY Raised Garden Beds

DIY Raised Garden Beds

The time has come to share some of what we’ve been doing …

The temperatures here still seem to dip below freezing at night.  And our little sprouts are ready to be planted.  But they will fair far better in our mudroom than outside in the cold cold night air.  As we wait for the temperatures to rise so we can plant our little gems of goodness, we still have plenty of work ahead of us preparing the gardens.

This year we’ve chosen to do raised beds.  As the collector of fine junk and the purveyor of needless necessities, I have just such an item to meet the needs of these projects.

Earth Day

In keeping it GREEN, we are doing our annual planting of the family garden and taking in all the great things Mother Nature has to offer.  Recently it was Earth Day (April 23, 2011), but for us it has been a month (if not decades) of Earth Day.

In addition to the many DIY garden projects and home-school science projects we have going, Earth ‘month’ has pulled it all together into one nice neat little package.
