Traps, Tapes, Lights and Zappers

Ok this will be a short post, but once again this will be a shame on me one.  As there is part of this post that brings me great delight when I think about it.  I’m sure you’ll see just exactly which part brings me delight as you read on.

Fly traps TRAP adult flies when they’re most active.  Fly tape traps and KILL flies that get stuck in the tacky tape.  (No this is not the part I like – keep reading.) Spectrum lights repel the insects.  A quick note here:  Yellow spectrum lights draw fewer midges than do blue or green ones do.

Natural & Non-Toxic Repellents

Concerns to human health give rise to alternative insect repellents that contain naturally occurring oils, extracts and herbs.  Tomato, marigold, eucalyptus and citronella are but to name a few.  These ingredients repel rather than kill flies, mosquitos, gnats and midges.  Natural fly repellents don’t usually contain carcinogens or potential carcinogens and range in price from $5.00 – $30.00 per bottle.

Let me repeat that!

Insecticides

Alright, I have to admit that I’m taking more delight in writing this post than I probably should.    But simply put, insecticides KILL as well as repel bugs by disrupting the insects’ nervous system.  Ok, Okay.  Now I know that sounds really sadistic of me, but these buggers cause a lot of grief to livestock and of course it comes with a hefty price tag of deadly disease if they are allowed to stay and play with the herd.

So yes, it is shameful of me to wish ill will of these little buggers but facts are facts and any one in the western industry will tell you they just have to go!
