Trivia Tuesday ~ Snack Cake Wars

Trivia Tuesday ~ Snack Cake Wars

What has two chocolate sides and a creamy filling in the center?  If you said an Oreo cookie, you’d guess wrong.  Here’s a few more clues;

  • What may have been originally known as the Gob?
  • What looks like an over-grown Oreo cookie but isn’t?
  • What has Maine and Pennsylvania in a lawsuit over possession of its origin?

No it’s not an ice cream sandwich.  And no, to my great dismay, it isn’t the Gobstopper from Willy Wonka either.

Cowboy Cobbler

  • 1 quart Tomatoes
  • 2/3 cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Nutmeg
  • Pie crust

Cut tomatoes in small pieces and mix with sugar, nutmeg.  Rinse jar with 1 cup water.  Add this water to the mixture and stir.  Put half of mixture in 1 1/2 quart casserole dish.

HERE YOU HAVE A COUPLE OF OPTIONS for the crust:

Roll pie crust into a thin sheet and fit to bottom of pan.  Add tomato mixture.  Then roll crust thin and place on top to fit to dish.

OR instead of crust, pinch dough into small dumplings and sprinkle over mixture.

Bake at 350^F for 25-30 minutes.

Ranchwoman’s Cobbler

  • 2 cups Flour
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • 3 tsp. Baking Powder
  • Water for batter
  • 1 gallon Fruit, cherries are preferred but any fruit will do
  • Lemon juice and sugar to taste

In a large cobbler pan or medium Dutch oven, stir all dry ingredients.  Add enough water to make a thick batter.  Spread evenly.  Drain juice from the fruit and add a little salt, lemon juice and sugar to make juice taste good.  Spread fruit on the batter and pour juice over it.  Bake at 350^F for 1 hour.

If you use a Dutch oven and cook outdoors, live coals are put on the lid until the cobbler begins to puff up and gets a little brown.  Take coals off the lid and continue cooking slowly.
